Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often.
General
Which areas do you cover?
We work in all 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region, in Walloon Brabant and in Flemish Brabant, for both homes and businesses.
Are you certified refrigeration engineers?
Yes, our technicians hold the certifications required to handle refrigerants, in Brussels (Brussels Environment) and in the Walloon Region.
Do you work for homes and businesses?
Yes: houses and flats, as well as offices, shops, restaurants, bakeries, butchers and food businesses.
Do you work on all brands?
We install, service and repair most brands of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment on the market.
Quotes & call-outs
Is the quote free?
Yes, the quote is free and without obligation. It lists equipment, labour and any additional work.
How do I get a quote?
Fill in the quote form or call us. Describe your project and municipality and, if possible, add a few photos: a simple project can often be quoted remotely, a more complex one requires a visit.
What information should I have ready for a repair?
The brand and model of the unit, any error code, the symptoms you have noticed (noise, water leak, no more cooling…) and when the problem started.
Air conditioning installation
How long does an installation take?
A standard single-split installation is usually completed in one day. A multi-split or commercial installation takes longer, depending on the number of units.
What capacity should I choose?
It depends on floor area, insulation, sun exposure, glazing and how the room is used. We size the unit to avoid one that is too weak (inefficient) or too powerful (short cycles, less comfort).
Can air conditioning also heat?
Yes, reversible models also provide heating in spring, autumn and winter, as well as cooling in summer.
Do I need permission for the outdoor unit?
It depends on the location and local rules: municipal regulations, a possible planning permit for a street-facing façade, approval from the owners’ association in a flat. We help you identify the steps.
Servicing & breakdowns
How often should air conditioning be serviced?
At least once a year, ideally before summer. In between, clean the filters every few weeks during the season.
Why is my air conditioner leaking water?
Usually the condensate drain is blocked or the condensate pump has failed. A very dirty filter can also make the indoor unit freeze and then drip. Switch the unit off and contact us.
My air conditioner no longer cools, is it serious?
Not necessarily: dirty filters, wrong settings or a blocked outdoor unit are simple causes. A lasting drop in performance can also indicate a refrigerant leak, which must be found and repaired by a certified engineer.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes, for air conditioning, commercial refrigeration and heat pumps. There is no standard plan: the contract is tailored to your installation.
Refrigeration
What is the difference between a chiller and a freezer cold room?
A chiller room keeps goods at roughly 0 to +8 °C (fresh produce), a freezer room goes below 0 °C, typically around −18 °C (frozen goods).
What should I do if my cold room breaks down?
Keep the door closed, note the displayed temperature and the time, move sensitive goods if possible and contact us quickly to protect your stock.
Which refrigeration equipment do you install?
Cold rooms, refrigeration units, refrigerated counters and display cases, back bars and refrigerated cabinets for shops, hospitality and the food industry.
How can I reduce the energy use of a refrigeration system?
Clean condensers, tight door seals, a properly closed door, correctly set defrost cycles and regular servicing significantly reduce electricity consumption.
Heat pumps
What is the difference between an air-to-water and an air-to-air heat pump?
An air-to-water heat pump heats the water in your central heating (radiators, underfloor heating) and can produce domestic hot water. An air-to-air heat pump heats the air in your rooms directly and can also cool in summer.
Are you certified to install heat pumps?
Yes, Be Cool Solutions is a RESCert-certified heat pump installer, in addition to our refrigeration engineer certifications.
Does a heat pump need maintenance?
Yes, regular servicing preserves efficiency and service life: refrigerant circuit check, cleaning of the outdoor unit, inspection of settings and safety devices.
Are there grants for heat pumps?
Regional grants may be available depending on your region and situation. Conditions change regularly, so check them with your region before committing.
Regulations
Are leak checks mandatory?
Yes, above certain thresholds expressed in tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, the EU F-gas Regulation requires periodic leak checks. Their frequency increases with the amount of refrigerant and can be reduced if the system has a leak detection system.
Are some refrigerants banned?
Yes, refrigerants with a high climate impact, such as R404A, are being phased out. Existing installations may need to be converted or replaced. We advise you on the right solution.
What rules apply to food refrigeration?
Hygiene rules (HACCP) require storage temperatures to be controlled and monitored. A recording thermometer or temperature alarm makes this easier.
