A heat pump water heater is a hot water cylinder with a small built-in heat pump. It draws heat from the air to heat domestic water and uses less electricity than a conventional electric water heater.
Advantages of a heat pump water heater

Choosing and placing your cylinder
Capacity depends on the number of people and your habits. Location matters too: room volume, air intake, noise and condensate drainage. We advise you when we quote.
Heat pump water heater or air-to-water heat pump?
If you also want to replace your heating, an air-to-water heat pump can provide both heating and hot water. For hot water only, a heat pump water heater remains the simplest solution.
How does it work?
The small heat pump built into the cylinder draws in air from the room or from outside, extracts its heat and transfers it to the water in the tank. An electric element takes over when needed, for example when hot water demand is unusually high.
Heat pump water heater maintenance
- Cleaning the air intake filter
- Checking the condensate drain
- Checking the protective anode, depending on the model
- Checking operation and settings

Frequently asked questions
How does a heat pump water heater work?
A small heat pump, usually on top of the tank, takes heat from the surrounding or outdoor air and transfers it to the water in the cylinder. An electric element takes over when needed.
Where should a heat pump water heater go?
In a large enough unheated room (cellar, utility room, garage), or with a duct drawing air from outside. Condensate drainage must also be provided.
Can it replace my electric water heater?
Yes, that is the most common use. It connects to the cold water supply and the hot water pipework just like a conventional water heater.
Does a heat pump water heater need maintenance?
Yes, regular servicing is recommended: anode check, cleaning of the heat pump section, inspection of the condensate drain and safety devices.
